Maintaining and reviving traditional naming practices is part of reclaiming Indigenous languages and rights, as these mothers show. My articles "Differential Responses to Constraints on Naming Agency among Indigenous Peoples and Immigrants in Canada" and "'They can learn to say my name': Redistributing Responsibility for Integrating Immigrants to Canada" shed more light on social structure and power issues that arise in these naming contexts.
